A 4-month-old baby is among five people who died yesterday in a head-on collision on the N2 between Nanaga and Makhanda.
According to the Department of Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, the head-on collision involving a Polo sedan and Chevrolet Spark has also led to six more passengers sustaining serious injuries.
Reporting on the accident, Binqose said the injured have been treated and moved to nearby hospitals.
Transport and Community Safety MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
Nqatha continues to call on motorists to adhere to the rules of the road, as most accidents that have occurred in the province have been caused by human behaviour.
