GQEBERHA: A serious multi-vehicle accident involving at least five vehicles has occurred on the N2 highway near the Windfarm service station, with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) reporting multiple injuries at the scene. Motorists have been cautioned that the road is closed from Gqeberha towards Jeffreys Bay and alternative routes should be taken.

The crash, which happened amidst wildfires raging along the highway between Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) and Jeffreys Bay, has resulted in one vehicle catching alight, adding to the severity of the incident. Emergency services are currently attending to the scene, with EMS teams treating multiple injured victims.

The accident has completely blocked traffic flow on the highway. This incident follows a warning from the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality to motorists at around 2 pm today that wildfires had reignited in the area. The N2 was closed yesterday due to wildfires, but was reopened last night.

This morning, a wildfire near Van Stadens has reignited due to strong winds. According to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the fire – which was previously brought under control yesterday – has now spread towards Van Stadens and poses a significant threat to the area.
