A family member who stands accused of murdering 12-year-old Lithaliyanda Ntoni, from Motherwell in Gqeberha, made his first appearance in court yesterday, June 30.
The child’s body was found in bushes near Khabonqaba Street, NU6, Motherwell in the early hours of Friday, June 27.
Lithaliyanda was reported missing after failing to return from a nearby shop three days earlier.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, the accused is married to Lithaliyanda’s sister.
“The suspect in the murder case of 12-year-old Lithaliyanda Ntini appeared in court for the first time today.
“The accused, Sonwabo Nqayi (39), who is married to the deceased’s sister, faces charges in connection with the crime.”
Nqayi has been remanded in custody and is expected back in court for a formal bail application on Monday, July 7.
