Two alleged robbery suspects were not so lucky this morning when their plans to rob a business were foiled by the shop owner and his assistant.

According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson, the suspects walked into a shop in Nile Road in Perridgevale around 08:30 and threatened the owner and his assistant with knives.

“It is alleged that the suspects, aged 26 and 30, walked into the shop and produced knives. One suspect jumped over the counter and took money from the till,” Naidu said.

The owner, who was in the aisle, shouted at his assistant to grab the suspect while he went after the second suspect.

“A customer who was also in the shop assisted in apprehending the suspects.”

Both suspects were arrested and handed over to police.

“During the scuffle, one suspect sustained two stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.”

The suspect’s vehicle, a white VW Polo, was also impounded for further investigation.

Detectives are probing their involvement in other business robberies with a similar modus operandi that took place in June this year.

The suspects will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court later in the week.
