A culpable homicide case was opened by SAPS KwaZakhele following a fatal accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that happened today, April 17, in Zwide. This incident is the fourth pedestrian to be fatally hit in three separate incidents by a vehicle on the R75 in just one month, as previously reported by PE Express this morning.

According to SAPS spokesperson Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 06:50 this morning, the driver of a maroon Renault Kwid was travelling from KwaDwesi towards Algoa Park.

“At the intersection of the R75 and Johnson Road, in front of Khwezi Lomso Comprehensive School, the vehicle overturned and went through the fence of the school situated on the corner. It is further alleged that the driver lost control of his vehicle and he bumped a pedestrian, who was declared dead on the scene.”

She added that the pedestrian is unknown at this time, and is aged between 55 and 60. He was wearing blue overall pants, a blue shirt, and a khaki jacket with black safety boots.

“The driver and a 9-year-old boy sustained minor injuries and were treated on the scene. The investigation is ongoing,” said Janse Van Rensburg.
