Despite recent rainfall in the Eastern Cape, water levels have slightly declined, showing no significant improvement.

According to the Department of Water & Sanitation spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa, there has instead been a marginal decline from last week’s 81.7% to 81.4% this week.

Mavasa highlighted that this is according to the weekly state of reservoirs issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

“Although there is little impact on water levels, the Eastern Cape Department of Water and Sanitation is confident about the water supply of the province.”

Water Supply Statistics according to DWS: 

Klipplaat Water Supply System (serving Komani and surrounding communities):

  • Klipplaat Water Supply System: 89.1% (this week) vs. 90.4% (last week).
  • Xonxa Dam: 99.9% (this week) vs. 99.8% (last week).
  • Macubeni Dam: 96.8% (this week) vs. 97.9% (last week).
  • Tsojana Dam: 100% (full capacity).

Amathole Water Supply System (serving Buffalo City Metro):

  • Overall: 98.5% (this week) vs. 98.4% (last week).
  • Nahoon Dam: 93.5% (this week) vs. 92.2% (last week).
  • Laing Dam: 100% (full capacity).
  • Roikrantz Dam: 100% (full capacity).
  • Bridle Drift Dam: 97.2% (this week) vs. 97.1% (last week).

Nelson Mandela Bay dams:

  • Kouga Dam: 92.9% (this week) vs. 94.5% (last week).
  • Loerie Dam: 100.3% (this week) vs. 98.2% (last week).
  • Impofu Dam: 57.9% (this week) vs. 58.1% (last week).
