For the third year running, Slipperfields, the elegant events and conference venue below the Lady’s Slipper, will be hosting the Christmas in July ‘Christmas Eve’ fundraising dinner in aid of supporting the impactful work of the Ubomi Obutsha Centre.

Ubomi Obutsha Centre is a community-centred and development-oriented non-profit in the heart of KwaZakhele.

As in previous years, the evening of Thursday, July 24, will start with delicious canapés in the Mirror Room before leading into a charmingly decorated converted farm shed where a four-course ‘Christmas Eve’ dinner will be served whilst a programme of entertainment, inspiration and insight into the work of the Ubomi Obutsha Centre is set to unfold.

Premier guest speaker for the evening, Rusty Labuschagne, will share his story of resilience after being wrongfully convicted for a crime he did not commit.

In 2003, the successful safari operator and businessman was wrongly convicted of drowning a poacher. Despite the absence of a body, and against police evidence, he spent 10 harrowing years in Zimbabwe’s prisons, having to draw on inner strength and resilience.

“I learnt to surrender control, trust in God, and cultivate gratitude, forgiveness and positivity as pathways to hope and freedom,” he shared with the PE Express of his experience.

During the Christmas in July event, guests can expect performances by a cappella quartet, The Creed, who are long-term supporters of the Ubomi Obutsha Centre.

Guests can expect various items, from small to fun and high-value, up for grabs during the fundraising auction whilst gaining insight into the important work of the Ubomi Obutsha Centre.

It is also hoped, if the final phases of production go well, that the substantial and unique coffee table book, KwaZakhele – Life in a Township, which the Ubomi Obutsha Centre has been working on for the past three years, will make its first large-scale public appearance.

Tickets can be booked through Quicket at https://qkt.io/O7vYkk, and any businesses that would still like to make a sponsorship donation for the event (cash or auction items) can contact the Ubomi Obutsha Centre by email, [email protected]. For all donations, an S18A tax-deductible certificate will be issued.
