GQEBERHA: Coastal Demolishers CC and its director Mathys Pieter Johannes Bekker (58) were convicted recently and ordered to pay a fine of R91,500 by the Gqeberha Magistrates’ Court on 4 September 2025 for contravention of the Tax Administration Act.
According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, the business entity as well as the accused failed to submit Company Income Tax Returns for the years 2010 and 2024.
“Furthermore, they also failed to submit Value-Added Tax (VAT 201) returns for the periods from January 2016 to June 2024, and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) returns for the period from March 2016 to July 2024. Subsequently, SARS persistently reminded the accused, but they intentionally ignored the institution, hence the matter was referred to the Hawks for investigation,” he explained.
He said that following a thorough investigation, the Hawks served Bekker with a summons in October 2024 to appear before court, where he was released on warning.
He further said the accused made numerous court appearances until his sentencing by the Gqeberha Magistrates’ Court on 4 September 2025.
