GQEBERHA – Gqeberha businessman Rob Evans will remain behind bars after his second attempt at freedom was denied today, 11 November, at the Gqeberha High Court.

The 58-year-old Algoa Plastics boss was charged with murder after his 36-year-old girlfriend, Vanessa Van Rensburg, was found dead in his Oyster Bay holiday home during Easter weekend.

The Express previously reported that Evans has been in police custody since his arrest on May 9 at his business premises in Newton Park.

According to Gqeberha High Court Judge Nyameko Gqamana, Rob Evans failed to discharge the onus on the balance of probabilities that exceptional circumstances exist which would, “in the interests of justice, permit his release on bail.”

This second attempt comes not long after his bail application was struck off the roll in September.
