Two people have died following a head-on collision between a Corsa bakkie and VW Polo on the R75 behind Despatch on Saturday, July 9.
According to police spokesperson, Captain André
Beetge, the incident took place at about 21:00.
“The Polo driver was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road resulting in a head-on collision with the bakkie,” Beetge explained.
He said that the VW Polo was occupied by two females and a male, while the Corsa bakkie was occupied by one male.
“The male and female in the front of the Polo died instantly, with the female in the back sustaining serious injuries.”
Beetg added that the bakkie caught fire, with the passenger being pulled to safely by a person driving by.
“He was rushed to hospital with broken legs.”
A case of culpable homicide is underway.
