Motorists are advised that heavy rainfall combined with snowfall has created hazardous conditions on several major routesn in the Eastern Cape:
- N2 road (KwaBhaca/Mt Frere to Kokstad):
• Thick snow
• Closure imminent due to worsening conditions - N9 road (Middleburg at Lootsberg towards Graff Reinet):
• Partially open with traffic moving slowly
• Traffic under strict supervision of Law Enforcement officers - R61 road (Graff Reinet at Wapadsberg towards Nxuba):
• Traffic moving slowly through strict control
• No vehicle restrictions currently in place - R58 road (Elliot at Barkley Pass towards Barkley East):
• Heavy snow continues to fall
• Extremely slippery conditions
• Only small cars allowed under traffic officer supervision
• Heavy vehicles prohibited - N6 road (Queenstown at Penhoek Pass towards Jamestown):
• Road remains open
• Light snow and rainfall reported
