Following its critically acclaimed season of DreamScapes at the Roodepoort Theatre, Joburg Ballet is gearing up to take this three-part showcase of the best in ballet on the road with a visit to Gqeherba’s Mandela Bay Theatre Complex.
“We are thrilled to be bringing Joburg Ballet’s DreamScapes to Gqeherba and to be performing for new audiences,” said Joburg Ballet CEO, Elroy Fillis-Bell. “DreamScapes comprises three ballets making up a transformative triple bill that showcases Joburg Ballet’s versatility and commitment to celebrating heritage, artistry, and innovation.
The production won acclaim during the recent season at the Roodepoort Theatre, and we are confident that the Eastern Cape will echo the applause of the Gauteng audiences.”
DreamScapes weaves together the timeless beauty of Les Sylphides, a deeply rooted spiritual narrative in Kitty Phetla’s new work, The Underworld and Elsewhere, and the electrifying vibrancy and poignant power of human resilience in Dane Hurst’s new work, Resonance.
Resonance also marks a homecoming for Dane Hurst, interim artistic director of Joburg Ballet and a distinguished son of Gqeberha, who over the past 20 years has built a reputation as a leading figure in the dance community in the United Kingdom.
DreamScapes can be seen at the Mandela Bay Theatre Complex on Friday, May 2 at 19:00; Saturday, May 3 at 14:00 and 19:00; and on Sunday, May 4 at 14:00. Tickets from R150 are available from Webtickets.
