The Eastern Cape Hawks have confirmed that a ransom has been demanded for the release of the kidnapped Gqeberha teacher.

The Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, said, “The reports indicated that the suspects demanded a ransom; the matter is being investigated by the Hawks,” he said.

On Monday, PE Express reported on the kidnapping of a Gqeberha teacher, which took place on the school premises at Happydale Special School, Algoa Park. SAPS spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, confirmed that a 45-year-old female staff member was kidnapped by at least three male suspects upon her arrival at the school in her grey Toyota Fortuner.

“The suspects, using a white Toyota Corolla, forcefully took her into their vehicle and fled the scene,” Beetge added.
