Beachgoers can return to Kings Beach after Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality confirmed water quality has returned to safe levels following last month’s sewerage spill.
In a statement today, Friday 22 August, the Municipality confirmed that rigorous testing has been conducted with monitoring taking place twice weekly since the incident.
“The results have consistently confirmed that water quality has returned to safe levels for public use,” the Municipality stated.
The beach closure followed a sewage spill that occurred in July, marking the second such incident at Kings Beach within a matter of weeks.
Kings Beach is one of Nelson Mandela Bay’s premier coastal attractions, drawing thousands of visitors throughout the year.
The Municipality has assured the public that water quality monitoring will continue to ensure ongoing safety standards are maintained.
The recent spills highlighted ongoing infrastructure challenges facing the Metro, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall when the sewerage system comes under increased pressure.
