The Kouga Municipality has issued urgent evacuation orders for residents across multiple areas as uncontrolled fires continue to rage, posing immediate threats to life and property.
The evacuation affects residents in three key areas: the Zwartenbosch area along the R330 toward Hankey, farming communities along Oyster Bay Road and residents in the Kromme River and Riverside areas.
Immediate action required
In the Zwartenbosch area, all residents living along the R330 in the Hankey direction, particularly those in the vicinity of the local poultry farm on both sides of the road, have been ordered to leave their homes immediately.
Similarly, residents in the surrounding farming areas along Oyster Bay Road must evacuate without delay.
The evacuation order also extends to all residents in the Kromme River and Riverside areas, where the fire threat remains critical.
Emergency response and support
The Kouga Municipality has confirmed that temporary accommodation will be provided. Emergency coordination efforts are being managed through the municipality’s Emergency Control Room, which can be reached at 042-291 0250.
Kouga Municipality officials are urging residents to share this evacuation notice immediately to ensure all affected residents are informed.

Road Closure
The N2 between Humansdorp and Jeffreys Bay is closed whilst all traffic is being diverted via the R102.
Residents and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
