A major drug bust took place in Goodwood on Sunday afternoon, 13 July, when members attached to Operation Restore followed-up on information that led them to a house in Molteno Street. Around 13:45 officers searched the premises and discovered 6 kg of heroin hidden in a cupboard. A 32-year-old man from Tanzania, who occupied the room, was arrested and charged with dealing in heroin. The drugs have an estimated street value of nearly R1 million.

The search continued in another room, where officers found 100 g of heroin valued at around R16 000. A 28-year-old man from Burundi was arrested for drug possession.

While processing the suspects police received more information suggesting there were more drugs hidden on the property. Officers expanded their search and made a shocking discovery in the roof — 145 kg of tik and 16 kg of heroin. The street value of these drugs is estimated at R53,3 million.
