A series of violent incidents rocked Gqeberha over the weekend, with three separate shootings resulting in multiple casualties in Korsten, KwaZakhele and Walmer Location.
Korsten shooting incident
On Saturday, March 8, a man was shot and killed, and another was wounded while sitting in their vehicle during a shooting in Korsten.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg reported that around 10:45, SAPS Algoa Park responded to a complaint at the corner of Essex Street and Kotrel Street.
She said upon arrival, officers found a white Toyota Light Duty Vehicle (LDV) with a male in the driver’s seat, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The second victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.
“It is further alleged that two unknown suspects passed the LDV and started shooting at the deceased, after which the suspects walked away,” she explained.
Janse van Rensburg noted that SAPS Algoa Park detectives have opened a case of murder and attempted murder following the incident.
She stated the name and nationality of the deceased will only be released once identified by the family.
“The motive and the suspects are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. Police urge anyone with information to contact SAPS Algoa Park or SAPS Crime Stop. All information is confidential, and callers may remain anonymous,” she concluded.
Shooting of community activist Pamela Mbini
As reported by PE Express, this incident is part of a broader series of shootings, including the tragic killing of 46-year-old community activist and whistleblower Pamela Mbini.
Mbini was shot and killed outside her home in Kwazahele on Friday, March 7.
She was recognised for her role in supporting victims in the Timothy Omotoso alleged rape and trafficking case.
Walmer location shooting
On the same day, March 7, a double murder and attempted murder took place when three people were shot in Sakasonke Village, Walmer Location, on Friday night.
