The Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, applauded the detectives and the National Prosecution Authority for their collaboration. They ensured that a suspect involved in a mob justice incident was brought to justice on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, on May 10, 2023, at approximately 12:50, Sibusiso Demisi (30) was taken from his home in Sibriets Road, Missionvale by a group of community members. He was accused of theft. Demisi was assaulted and the community used a tyre to set him alight. During the investigation, a suspect in this mob justice attack was identified. The suspect was arrested.

She added, “On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Bonile Stofile (55) was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at the Gqeberha Regional Court for the murder of Sibusiso Demisi.”

While commending Detective Warrant Officer Khowa for his sterling work, the District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, strongly condemns any act of mob justice in every community. It carries criminal implications for those responsible. He urged communities to be patient with investigations. There are many elements that need to be considered.

“SAPS has capable investigators who work around the clock, leaving no stone unturned to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book,” Ncata concluded.

In a separate but similar story published by PE Express on December 4, 2022, former police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that the police in Nelson Mandela Bay are warning community members. There is no justification whatsoever for acts of mob justice, and perpetrators of such crimes will face the full might of the law should they be found.

When addressing the issue of mob justice not being a solution in December 2022, Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, said, “Every citizen must abide by the law and inform police of any suspect(s). Call the police if you (the community) manage to arrest an alleged suspect in order to avoid any further criminal acts through mob justice,”
