The South African Police Services in Motherwell, and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in Gqeberha arrested a 35-year-old woman for attempted murder and child abuse on a 3-year-old toddler on Thursday, June 5.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on the abovementioned date at approximately 18:30, SAPS Motherwell attended to a complaint at Shukushukuma area in Motherwell.

“On arrival they were informed by a witness that while passing a house he noticed the female suspect (35) assaulting her 3-year-old boy with an empty bottle. The witness entered the house to intervene and managed to stop the victim and alerted the SAPS. The boy was taken to hospital by Family and had visible injuries in his head and face.”

The female suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder and child abuse. She will appear in the Motherwell magistrate court on Monday, June 9.
