Reports from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s law enforcement deployees indicate
that there is still widespread confusion regarding the correct start time of
the curfew as per the Disaster Management Act.

NMBM Member of the Mayoral
Committee for Safety and Security, John Best, said the need therefore exists to
clarify that the curfew for hotspot areas such as Nelson Mandela Bay and the
Garden Route is 22:00.

“It is an hour later for other regions. We were
informed that numerous members of the public told law enforcement officers that
they thought the curfew only starts at 23:00, which is obviously not the case.

“I would like to appeal to members of the public to
strictly adhere to the regulations as the Minister of Health once again
reported a major spike in new coronavirus infections.

“We are doing our level best as the law enforcement community
to continuously provide an efficient support service for the public health
initiatives and also would like to remind residents to stick to critical
COVID-19 health protocols,” Best said.
