GQEBERHA – Three suspects accused of murdering Gqeberha businessman Daniel De Jager appeared for a formal bail application in the Gqeberha Court today, 13 November.

Anke-Mari Cilliers, Lee-Roy Scholtz and the deceased’s partner Estelle Le Grange stand accused of murdering De Jager in his Newton Park home on Thursday, 30 October.

According to the charge sheet, the suspects stand accused on three counts:

Count 1 – Conspiracy to commit murder, where they allegedly unlawfully and intentionally conspired with each other to aid or procure the commission of or to commit an offence.

Count 2 – Murder, where they allegedly wrongfully and intentionally killed De Jager, an adult male, by suffocating him and hitting him with a hammer or a similar instrument. The State is also alleging that the murder was premeditated.

Count 3 – Robbery with aggravating circumstances, where they allegedly committed the robbery in an aggravating fashion.

The State further alleges that the accused took the deceased’s bank cards, jewellery, cash of R4,450 and a Nissan Juke (later recovered).

In order for legal counsel to consult with their clients, the formal bail application was postponed to 20 November.

The accused will remain in custody.
