The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is not ready to open libraries across the metro yet, despite the country’s recent move to lockdown level one.
According to municipal spokesperson, Mamela Ndamase, the municipality is working tirelessly to ensure that the libraries are COVID-19 compliant before the official opening to ensure the safety of both the public and staff.
“Our Wellness Unit is conducting health and safety risk assessments at all libraries and upon the submission of that report we would have to action the recommendations. This is in addition to other engagements and interventions internally and with the provincial government,” Ndamase said.
She added that the NMBM would like to encourage the public to continue utilising the electronic library whilst the traditional libraries are still closed.
