No breakthrough has yet been reported in the kidnapping of Gqeberha woman, Lindsay Knowlden (65).

While reports are doing the rounds on social media that there has been a ransom demand, this could not be confirmed by official sources at this stage.

Hawks spokesperson w.o Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana confirmed on Sunday that the Eastern Cape Directorate for Priority Crime is now actively investigating the kidnapping.

He said the Hawks has taken over the matter, but details around the investigation will not be revealed, due to the sensitivity of the case. They appeal to the public for any information related to this incident to come forward.

Knowlden was kidnapped yesterday morning (Saturday, June 21) when she arrived at her place of work, the Fresh Produce Market, in Markman. Her husband was pistol-whipped by the kidnappers.

Atlas Security, which was first on the scene, said in a statement on Facebook their team responded immediately after being alerted in the early hours of Saturday morning.

They found Knowlden’s husband injured after being pistol-whipped in the face.

“Our control room and teams have been working closely with the local authorities, using our extensive network of CCTV cameras across Nelson Mandela Bay to assist in the investigation. We can confirm that the vehicle involved was flagged, but in the interest of the ongoing investigation, further details cannot be shared at this time,” the statement read.

“We are aware that the Hawks have received a ransom demand for Lindsay’s safe return. The case is now in the hands of the Hawks and SAPS, and Atlas Security will continue to cooperate fully with all role players as the investigation unfolds,” the statement read.

“Our thoughts are with Lindsay’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We urge anyone with information to contact SAPS.”
