Port Elizabeth musicians are doing the Friendly City proud, as five musos have made it through the blind auditions in season three of The Voice South Africa so far.
There are still two more rounds of blind auditions to go. The talent from PE chosen so far are:
Lora Joplin
Part-time musician Lora is 29. She started singing in church at the age of five, with her father accompanying her on guitar. She is the youngest of seven siblings and started performing on stage and in competitions in 2009. A keen home cook, she also plays piano and guitar and composes her own music. #TeamLira
Nikki van Niekerk
Nikki, 33, is a bartender, artist and musician. She credits her artistry with helping her overcome depression in addition to the unwavering support of the owners at the bar she works at – they’ve became her adoptive family. She describes herself as a “mover”, full-of-energy and always thinking and reflecting. In addition to performing, she creates sculptures with precious and semi-precious stones in her studio. She’s now hoping The Voice SA will be her big chance to share her gift. #TeamLira
Daniel Jay
The 23-year-old Daniel Jay was born in Port Elizabeth and reveals he’s always performed music. A full-time muso, he gigs in PE three or four times a week, having taken inspiration from his dad’s drumming and guitar playing when he was growing up. “My dad’s my biggest buddy when it comes to music,” he said. After his parents were divorced when he was five, he did his schooling in Pretoria, but didn’t want to be the Afrikaans singer they wanted him to be, so he moved back to PE. #TeamVanCoke
Eon le Roux
This 28-year-old is a Bitcoin entrepreneur and musician. Forced to sing by his parents when he was a child, he eventually fell in love with it. He said he entered The Voice because he had “a gift that needs to be shared with the world,” and the show was his biggest opportunity yet. A praise and worship leader, he also plays guitar, bass, piano and drums. #TeamRiky
Siki Jo-An
Siki Jo-An (Sikelelwa Jo-An Qwazi), hails from Kwazakhele and this is where her love for the stage began at a young age. Self-described as a “spiritual singer”, Siki Jo-An is 25. An actress and muso, she says she was born to be an artist and is merely following the path set down by her ancestors. She also plays guitar and keyboards. She moved to Johannesburg at the end of last year (2018). #TeamRiana
