ZASTRON. A 31-year-old suspect was arrested in Zastron following a business robbery at a petrol station early on Sunday, 27 July. The incident occurred at approximately 00:53 and was reported to police shortly thereafter.
According to police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle, three unknown males entered the shop at the petrol station posing as customers. After they left, one suspect returned and produced a firearm and threatened an employee. The two other suspects who were also armed joined him and forced the staff members to lie on the ground while they emptied the cash register and looted items from the shop. This included a cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Within a few hours after the robbery, a joint intelligence-driven operation involving Crime Intelligence, Zastron Visible Policing, and detectives led to the arrest of one suspect. Police also recovered three unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen goods.
Earle said the firearms will be tested to determine if they were used in other crimes.
A case of business robbery has been registered. The investigation continues and the suspect is expected to appear in court on Tuesday 29 July.
