LUSIKISIKI: Community assistance in Ngcoya locality led to the arrest of a man (28) who fell asleep after raping a woman (80) while she was sleeping with her grandchildren.
The incident happened on Saturday morning, June 7 at about 04:00.
According to a police statement, it is alleged that the victim was asleep with her grandchildren. The eldest, who is an 8-year-old, noticed the suspect already inside the house.
“The suspect threatened the victim not to cry and raped her, falling asleep afterwards. Neighbours were called and found the suspect asleep. They held him until the police arrived who arrested the 28-year-old suspect and charged him with rape. He will appear before the Lusikisiki Magistrate Court on Monday, 9 June, facing a rape charge,” the statement read.
Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntuli, praised the local community for their professional handling of the matter and encouraged them to always work closely with the police in fighting crime in their area.
