A local resident shared their recent experience, warning others to stay vigilant:
“Be aware of a scam going around where they hack your WhatsApp.
“I almost fell for it last night. I received a message from my mother-in-law and nearly sent her a verification number that had been SMSed to me. Luckily, I realised something was off at the last minute.
“She had already lost access to her WhatsApp, and someone was using her account to contact her entire list of contacts, trying to take control of their WhatsApps too. A few other people I know have also been targeted in the past day,” the resident shared.
