The Springbok Women will make history on Saturday when they face world number two Canada at Loftus Versfeld (13:30), marking the first Test between the nations on South African soil.
Captain Nolusindiso Booi will earn her record-extending 50th cap and captain the side for a record 22nd time as the 12th-ranked Springboks prepare for their Rugby World Cup campaign, just 49 days away.
“We know Canada are skilful and hard to stop, but we want nothing else than a tough challenge,” said Booi. “We’re getting battle ready for the World Cup, and this is exactly what we need.”
The visitors present a formidable test, having dominated the head-to-head record with four comprehensive victories, including a 66-7 thrashing in Madrid last year.
Assistant coach Franzel September emphasized the importance of their forward pack: “Canada can keep the ball for many phases, but our pack is powerful and we want to deliver a physical challenge.”
Several Springbok Women will extend records on Saturday, including scrumhalf Tayla Kinsey (39 caps), loose forward Sinazo Mcatshulwa (36 caps), and top points scorer Libbie Janse Rensburg (209 points).
Playing at the iconic Loftus Versfeld alongside the Springboks provides additional motivation for the team as they build toward the Rugby World Cup.
