GQEBERHA – The pair linked to the brutal murder of National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) prosecutor Tracy Brown appeared briefly in the Gqeberha Regional Court. Simthembele Xungu and Ayabulela Busakwe are charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Brown was gunned down on July 31 in front of her partner at her Young Park home after the suspects allegedly followed her from the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court, her place of work.
The State requested a postponement of the matter to allow law enforcement time to arrest a third suspect linked to the murder.
Shortly after the murder, the gunmen, occupying a distinctive VW Polo, allegedly sped off and were almost involved in a car accident with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle — the State’s witness — positively identified Xungu as being in the vehicle.
At the end of the appearance, the presiding magistrate confirmed that the investigation is still incomplete.
The matter was postponed until 11 December for further investigation. The suspects will remain in custody.
