GQEBERHA – A suspect, Jacob “Smallboy” Ndaumba (40) was convicted and sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances and housebreaking with intent to rob by the Gqeberha Regional Court yesterday, 27 October 2025. The Gqeberha Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit linked Ndaumba to the Gqeberha case.

According to the Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, on 23 January 2021, in the early hours of the morning, the complainant and his wife were asleep at their residence at Walmer in Gqeberha, when four (4) armed suspects forcibly entered the premises.

He added that the perpetrators confronted the couple with sharp weapons, demanding cash, firearms, jewellery, and other valuables.

The victims were subsequently robbed of an amount totalling R71,200 in cash and valuables. The matter was handed over to the Hawks for investigation.

The identified accused was later apprehended in Langebaan, Western Cape, in connection with a similar offence in 2023. Following a formal requisition, Ndaumba was transferred from custody in September 2025 to face prosecution at the Gqeberha Regional Court for the Walmer case. Ndaumba had been remanded in custody since his arrest.

“The accused made numerous court appearances until his sentencing at the Gqeberha Regional Court on 27 October for two counts, which were robbery with aggravating circumstances and housebreaking with intent to rob.”

Mhlakuvana added that Ndaumba was sentenced to undergo fifteen (15) years’ direct imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He was further sentenced to undergo seven years’ imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to rob, which will run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 15 years’ direct imprisonment.
