On Monday, June 9, an 18-year-old suspect who was arrested for allegedly possessing stolen property will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said it is alleged that on Friday, June 6, at approximately 07:50, SAPS Chatty members received information about suspects coming from the bushes in Stanford Road, Booysen Park who were pushing two wheelie bins.

“The members immediately followed up on the information and upon arrival, one suspect ran away when he noticed the SAPS vehicle. The second suspect (18) was apprehended and the members searched the wheelie bins and found various items including housebreaking implements, such as locks, ladders, tools, two converter batteries and various other items,” she said.

She added that the suspect could not give a reasonable explanation why he was in possession of the suspected stolen property and was arrested.

“On arrival at the SAPS Chatty CSC, the ward councillor requested a SAPS vehicle to attend to a housebreaking complaint at the community centre. The councillor also mentioned that locks, ladders and various other items were stolen during the night from the community centre.”

Janse Van Rensburg added that the caretaker of Booysen Park Community Centre was requested to report at the SAPS Chatty Community Service Centre where the property was identified, belonging to the community centre.

“The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of housebreaking implements,” she said.
