Following a fire that broke out at the famous Richely House on Cape Road, known as one of South Africa’s most haunted houses this morning, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Fire and Emergency Services swiftly responded.
The blaze, first reported at 07:08 today, Tuesday, 11 March 2025, was successfully brought under control by 07:55.
Municipal spokesperson, Sithembiso Soyaya, praised the quick action of the firefighters, saying, “The dedication and prompt response by our fire services ensured the fire was contained swiftly, preventing any injuries or fatalities.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Fire Safety Division. Alongside this, a building inspector is set to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the property’s structural integrity to evaluate damage and identify any safety hazards.
“We commend the bravery and efficiency of our firefighting teams in managing such a critical situation,” Soyaya added.
He also urged the public to steer clear of the area while the ongoing assessments are conducted to ensure public safety.
