Taxi driver (44) fatally shot in taxi rank in Central

A taxi driver (44) was shot and killed at the Govan Mbeki Avenue taxi rank on March 31. Two masked suspects approached and fired multiple shots before fleeing. SAPS Humewood is investigating.

A taxi driver (44) was shot and killed yesterday, March 31, at the taxi rank next to Brister House, Govan Mbeki Avenue, Central.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, at about 16:45, SAPS Humewood police were alerted about the shooting incident.

Beetge reported: “It is alleged that the taxi driver was in his minibus taxi when he was approached by two unknown masked male suspects.

“One of the suspects fired several shots at him with a firearm, and the victim was wounded several times in his upper body.”

He added that the suspects fled the scene on foot afterwards.

“A murder case was opened and is being investigated by SAPS Humewood.”
