The entire R75 between Jansenville and Graaff-Reinet will be completely closed from Monday, June 16, to Friday, June 20, 2025. The road closure is necessary to remove a massive transformer that has remained at the accident site after the truck carrying it overturned in Ravelskloof, approximately 15 km north of Jansenville, in March this year. The transformer has been partially blocking the southbound lane of the R75 since the incident and will now be recovered.

This will be a full closure—no stop-and-go or one-way traffic will be permitted. Motorists are therefore advised to use alternative routes during this period.

One alternative route is to take the district road from Jansenville to Pearston and then continue on the R63 from Pearston to the R75 turnoff to Graaff-Reinet. The roads on this route are relatively well-maintained and suitable for all vehicles.

Another option is to take the R339 from Jansenville to Klipplaat, followed by the R338 from Klipplaat to Aberdeen and the N9 to Graaff-Reinet. Please note that the R338 between Klipplaat and Aberdeen is a gravel road which may present challenges during adverse weather and requires vehicles equipped for gravel surfaces.

The Komani-Karoo Express will provide updates should the dates for the recovery operation change for any reason.
