Update: Community kindness restores hope for Mama T

Pastor Glenn Weiss delivered the new car from the anonymous donor to Mama T.

Amid the hustle and bustle of her day, Mama T picks up the phone, and despite her busy schedule, today there’s a good reason to pause as she recalls how she was touched by an angel.

An anonymous donor, touched by the devastation that Mama T felt after her vehicle, which she used for her soup kitchen deliveries to homeless people, was stolen from her home, gifted her a new car.

PE Express reported on Sunday about the devastation Mama T felt after her vehicle was stolen from her home in Albany Road.

Her loss touched SAPS Mount Road Shift Commander Lt Col Evan Bester so much that he asked SAPS spokesperson, Capt. Sandra van Rensburg, to reach out to PE Express in an effort to find her vehicle.

Mama T is a domestic worker who delivers food to over 120 homeless people in the evenings after work. On Sunday, she told PE Express, “it is not about asking for another vehicle; I just want mine back, especially at this time of year when so many people are going hungry. I also have special Christmas goodies that people donated, which I need to hand out,” said Mama T, whose real name is Tendayi Rambique.

She runs her foundation under the name Mama T’s Street Feed Foundation.

But things changed for the better when Mama T received a phone call from her church minister, Pastor Glenn Weiss. “He asked me where I was. When he arrived with another church member in two cars, I assumed it was a delivery for my soup kitchen as they usually help me. But then Pastor Weiss told me one of those cars was mine! I was overwhelmed by gratitude, a true testament to the good in people,” Mama T shared emotionally.

This moment has invigorated her mission, which she describes as more than just providing food but sharing God’s love. The new car, delivered to her workplace, even came with a full tank, further encouraging her dedicated service.

“The people I share soup with are like family now. Through this gift, you can see God is at work,” she said.

Pastor Weiss recounted the moment with emotion, “After Mama T shared the unfortunate news of her stolen car with our church group, an anonymous donor immediately reached out. They wanted to ensure she could continue her important work in Gqeberha. She’s cherished because of her unwavering commitment to God’s mission.”

At Joy to the Nations Church, where Mama T serves as a deacon, her compassion extends to everyone. “When she received the car, her reaction brought tears to our eyes—everyone could see the Lord’s work through her,” he said.

The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, plans to cover the car’s license disc fee in January before transferring ownership to Mama T.

Pastor Glenn added, “Her old car was becoming unreliable, so this is more than just a gift; it’s faith-building for our community.”

Mama T closed with a heartfelt prayer, “As I carry on God’s work in my new vehicle, may God bless the anonymous donor with a private jet!”
