A 44-year-old shop owner was allegedly kidnapped by a group of approximately five male suspects today at about 10:00 in North End, Gqeberha.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, when the shop owner stopped in front of his business at Darling Street, North End in his white BMW sedan, a silver VW Polo stopped behind him.
As depicted in the CCTV footage outside of the shop, the suspects chased the business owner, and as he tried to escape the scene, one of suspects fired a shot towards the driver’s window and pulled him out of the BMW into the Polo.
Two individuals who seemed to have come out of the business tried to intervene, but quickly returned inside when one of the suspects pointed their firearm at them.
“Both vehicles, including the man’s BMW that was driven by one of the suspects left the scene,” said Beetge.
He added that a case of kidnapping was opened and is being investigated by SAPS Mount Road.
