A case of reckless or negligent driving has been opened after a vehicle that was transporting school children overturned this afternoon, May 30 on Tait Street in Newton Park.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 14:00 a light duty vehicle was transporting learners from three different primary schools, driving on Alexander Road, Newton Park.

“The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned.

“Approximately 23 children (boys and girls) were injured and taken to different hospitals for treatment,” she explained.

“The driver was also taken to hospital with injuries.”

The investigation is ongoing
