GQEBERHA – The Nelson Mandela Bay District Detective Intervention Task Team arrested a 23-year-old female suspect on 18 December after a thorough investigation into the murder of Nolwandle Hlahlatyi (35) on 10 December in the Kwadwesi policing precinct.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, preliminary reports indicate that South African Police Service (SAPS) in Kwadwesi responded to a complaint in Boesak Street, Govan Mbeki, Kwadwesi area on 11 December at approximately 06:15.

She said that on arrival, the brother of the deceased informed the SAPS members that at approximately 22:00 on 10 December, the deceased was in her shack at the back of the main house.

Janse Van Rensburg said that the brother was in the house watching TV when he heard gunshots at the back of the house.

“The following day when they went to the back of the house, they noticed that the door was open and on entering they found Nolwandle Hlahlatyi with multiple gunshot wounds,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

She said that during the investigation, intelligence was gathered and on 18 December the 23-year-old woman was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

The suspect will appear in the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court today, 19 December.
