A woman was nabbed after failing to smuggle contraband into the St Albans Correctional Centre on April 5.
Eastern Cape Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed that the woman was trying to smuggle dagga, a mobile phone charger, as well as an earphone.
He said the incident happened at about 10:30, during a routine search conducted by officials.
“The incident was registered with the SAPS for a criminal case to be opened, following Section 119 of the Correctional Services Act,” he added.
