Daniele Mortimer is a 13-year-old volunteer who has been giving back from an early age. From helping her mom and brother with street collections in aid of Save-A-Pet to lending a hand at parkrun, her commitment to serving others is truly inspiring.

Fondly known as Dani, she began volunteering at Wells Estate parkrun at the tender age of 8. She absolutely loved marshalling on the course, where she could cheer on the parkrunners and generously hand out high fives to all.

Over time, Dani went on to learn more technical aspects of volunteering. She now regularly assists with timekeeping at parkrun events, barcode scanning, and sorting the finish tokens in numerical order.

She has amassed an impressive 178 volunteer credits — that’s 178 Saturdays dedicated to giving back to her community.

Beyond parkrun, Dani is also the youngest and currently the only female volunteer on the Young Eagles youth crew at the SAAF Museum. She began volunteering there in December 2023, where she helps restore aircraft exhibits alongside the team, works at the kiosk assisting with sales, and supports with any other duties as needed.

Dani loves learning how to use new tools and has picked up a variety of skills while working with the crew to restore aircraft. She’s never afraid to get her hands dirty and always jumps in to help wherever she is needed.
